I have a persnickety rib that likes to go rogue every now and then, and yesterday was a day it decided to wander.
To state the obvious, it’s uncomfortable. In fact, it’s quite painful.
But beyond that, it’s a sign (and a fucking obvious one, might I add) that I’m to pay attention to my body more than I have been.
It was totally my fault, this rib going rogue. I take full responsibility for my actions (or rather, lack of action).
It’s hard to do it all… to juggle all the things in life that we HAVE to do and WANT to do. And it’s easy to put the mind and meat suit on the back burner when life gets busy.
But it's the wellbeing of the mind and body we need most.
So we ignore the subtle hints we receive, lethargy, short tempers, insomnia, insatiable cravings, a dull ache...
The tension grows, the pain persists.
Until one day, something seemingly simple turns your world upside down.
“I was just…” I hear my clients say when they report about their pain, be it physical or emotional.
But it wasn’t this singular act that brought them anguish. It was days, weeks, months, possibly years, of neglecting the care that they truly needed. That’s how chronic, persistent, or recurring ailments come to be. It’s living out of balance.
Let’s talk about that for a minute.
Living a balanced life doesn’t mean that you’re spending equal amounts of time tending to all the things that make you and your life.
No, not at all.
Balanced living is more fluid than that.
Balanced living means adjusting the proverbial scales so you can maintain equilibrium., mind, body, and soul.
And while I’d been rolling high on the seas of inspiration, creation, and motivation, my poor body quietly cried out for attention.
Shhh…not now, I’m on a roll, my consciousness would whisper.
But the body, she waits for no one. And eventually she’ll grab your attention in a VERY clear way.
From anxiety to indigestion, depression to immobility, the body (and mind) are always trying to tell you what they need.
If there’s discomfort lingering in your life, and you’re reading these words right now, know that I’m writing on behalf of your body.
Please, for just a moment, find stillness.
Put your phone down, turn off the tv or radio.
Look inward.
Where do you hurt?
Where are you tense?
How can you create softness, how can you create space?
Breathe deeply, send love and light.
Accept that you feel this way.
Trust that it’s temporary.
Know that you have the power to heal.
I love you.
Thank you for taking care of me, the best way you know how.
Thank you for this moment.
Thank you for not judging me.
Thank you.
I promise I’ll keep communicating with you.
And I promise that if you help me out, I'll make life easier.
Thank you for listening.
Thank you for taking action.
Thank you.
I love you.
We’re in this together.
